When can my son or daughter start working out in the weight room? At AWP, we are very cautious about allowing athletes into the weight room before they are ready. During our youth classes we incorporate body weight training. This will help in the development of the athlete and prepare them for the introduction to the weight room. AWP will NOT allow an athlete into the weight room that is not at least in the 8th grade. If you are an 8th grade athlete and have been through the program for 12-18 weeks and the performance coaches have given you the approval then we will start to introduce you into the weight room program.
What is the difference between basic speed training and advance speed training? In order to work with and excel every athlete at a high and effective rate AWP has broken our speed training into basic and advanced classes. The class structure is the same and the same principles are taught in each class. The difference is during the basic class there is more teaching by the performance coach and the students are introduced to the speed program. The basic class is set to introduce the athletes to speed and teach them proper techniques and fundamentals. In the advanced class the athletes have been through the speed program for 12-18 weeks and understand the speed periodization. The advanced class is set to push the athletes and make the task of the day more difficult.
How many times should my son or daughter attend AWP per week? AWP is open 6 days a week for the athletes to train. This allows the athlete to have options for which days they come to train. We understand that many of the athletes have different activities going on at school and are unable to attend because of other commitments. This is why we have set our schedule in place to give more opportunities for athletes to train during the week at AWP. School and your school sports have number one priority.
